Types of White Meat

What is White Meat?

White Meat: - 

White meat generally refers to meat that is pale in color before and after cooking, typically from poultry and certain fish. It has lower myoglobin levels than red meat. White meat is the meat that itself have no color, it is totally color free having only skin color so we can change its color or can give any color by adding the spices or by adding artificial color.


Types of White Meat:

White meat refers to meat that is pale in color before and after cooking. It typically comes from poultry and certain types of fish and is generally considered leaner and healthier compared to red meat. 


1. Chicken (especially breast and wings): -

Chicken is a type of white meat that is considered to be one of the most commonly consumed poultry meats. The breast and wings are considered white meat, while the thighs and drumsticks are classified as dark meat. It is to be considered as white meat because they do not have their own color these types of meats are color less so giving any color to them is easy.


Uses: -

  • Chicken can be used in the form of grilled, baked, stir-fried, or added to salads and soups, because chicken meat can be eaten in boiled form also so that's why it should be added in soups and salads also. 
  • Chicken can be used in sandwiches, curries, wraps, and barbecue dishes where all the chicken meat variety can be considered.

Health Benefits:

  • Chicken meats are mostly high in protein and low in fat (especially skinless breast), that's why chicken meat is very beneficial for our body. 
  • Chicken can also help to supports muscle growth and repair.
  • Chicken is rich in B vitamins (especially niacin and B6) that aid in metabolism and energy production.

2.Turkey (breast and wings): -

Turkey is a large bird similar to chicken and Turkey meat is also very similar to Chicken meat and in the similar way as chicken's breast and wings can be considered as white meat similarly the breast and wings of turkey can be considered as white meat.


Uses: -

  • Turkey can be commonly used in roasted form for holidays to enjoy the holidays.
  • It is also used in sandwiches, salads, ground turkey recipes, and soups.

  • Turkey can be considered as a lean source of protein, vitamins and minerals and all these nutrients are very beneficial for body health.
  • It can also contain selenium, zinc, and phosphorus that support immunity and thyroid function.

3. Rabbit Meat (lean parts): -

Rabbit is type of lean white meat with a slightly gamey flavor. The lean parts of rabbit meat can be eaten because this type of meat can be considered as white meat. It is more common in Mediterranean and European cuisines.


Uses: -

  • Rabbit can be used in the form of stewed, roasted, or braised because these methods of cooking are very common in that areas.
  • Rabbit meat is also used in pies, curries, and traditional rural dishes.

  • This type of meat is low in cholesterol and saturated fat.
  • This meat is high in easily digestible protein, vitamins and minerals that helps to improve our digestion system. 
  • These are very rich in vitamin B12, supporting nerve function and red blood cell formation.

4. Certain Types of Fish (e.g., cod, haddock, tilapia): -

White-fleshed fish are considered to be as a type of white meat due to their light color and lean composition. The flesh of the fish is light in color and to give any color to this meat is very easy.


Uses: -

  • Grilled, baked, fried, are the cooking methods that can be used in fish curries and tacos.
  • White meat is considered ideal for fish and chips, fish stews, or pan-seared dishes.

  • It is very low in calories and saturated fats.

5. Veal (from young calves): -

Veal is meat that we get from young calves that often considered as a lighter form of red meat but can sometimes be categorized as white meat due to its pale color and tenderness.


Uses: -

  • Veal can be used in gourmet recipes, cutlets, stews, and European dishes like Veal Marsala or schnitzels.

Health Benefits:

  • Veal can be cosidered as a tender and low in fat.
  • These are high in zinc and B12, supporting immune health.
  • It also contains high-quality of protein for muscle repair.
