What are Diary Products? 

Dairy Products are also considered as Animal-Based products as it made from the milk and milk can be given by different kinds of animal, so dairy products can be considered in the list of Animal-Based food sources. If ee talked about other products like cheese, butter, cream and yogurt all these things can also be made from milk. 


Types of Dairy Products: -

1. Milk: -

Milk is the base for all dairy products. Milk can be consumed directly or processed into other items. Milk is the basic need of every human being when a child get birth so for 1 to 1.5 years their basic need is milk and even their first meal is the milk. There are various sources from where we can fulfill our need which means there are many animals that give us milk and every animal's milk is different from the other each milk has its own unique taste, feature, texture, color and many other things also. Milk is a rich source of calcium, proteins vitamins and minerals which is very beneficial for human body.



Types: -

  • Whole Milk
  • Skimmed/Low-Fat Milk 
  • Flavored Milk 
  • Plant-based Milk Alternatives 


Uses: - 

  • Milk can be consumed directly or can get mixed in any other substance and many other substances can get also mixed in the milk to give a new shape, texture and taste to the milk.
  • Milk is the base for tea, coffee, smoothies and also is the base for many types if shakes.
  • Milk can also be used in baking, desserts, and sauces.


Health Benefits: -

  • Milk is very rich in calcium that helps us to strengthens our bones and teeth.
  • It can also contains vitamin D, B12, and protein that supports our muscle growth and provide us  energy.
  • It also helps us as Aids in hydration and in bone development also which make our bones strong and healthy.


2. Cream: -

Cream is basically to be consider as the fatty part the milk that rises to the top. When we give the boil to the milk at that time the cream gets gather on the top of milk is to be called as cream which is have very creamy texture and taste and flavor. This cream purely has the color as that the color of the milk. This cream is very fatty in their nutrients and in their taste that's why it is called as the fatty part of the milk.

Uses: -

  • Milk cream can help to add richness to soups, curries, and sauces that can used to enhance the flavor of the particular dish.
  • Cream can also be used in baking, cakes, ice creams, and desserts. For cakes and ice cream is the basic ingredient that should be very necessary for various dishes.


Health Benefits: -

  • Cream is high in fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, K which gives the creamy texture to the dishes and make the dishes healthy and nutritious.
  • It also helps to provides energy to various dishes but should be consumed in moderation due to high fat content.



3. Butter: -

Butter is another part of the milk that can he obtained from the cream. Basically, butter can be made by churning cream to separate the butterfat from buttermilk and after the churning of the cream the portion that remain thick and get extracted from butter milk is to be considered as spread.

  • Salted/Unsalted Butter
  • Cultured Butter
  • Ghee/Clarified Butter


Uses: -

  • Butter can be used in cooking and baking various dishes where it can be used to grease the things. The type of appliances we are using to make the particular dish and when we use butter on that particular appliance there the butter can be used to greasing the particular appliance.
  • Butter can also be used as a spread in various dishes especially Indian dishes where butter is especially used to enhance the flavor of that particular dish.
  • Butter can also add flavor to various types of dishes like pasta, toast, and sautéed vegetables.

4. Cheese: -

Cheese is another part of milk, and it also made from milk and butter. The cheese can be made by coagulating milk using rennet or acid, then aging.

  • Hard Cheese 
  • Processed Cheese 


Uses: -

  • Cheese can be used as snacks, sandwiches, pizza toppings that make a delicious cheese pulling on that dish.

  • It can also be used in salads, pasta, and baked dishes.

  • Cheese is very high in protein and calcium that is very good for our bones and body health.

  • It can also contain probiotics (in aged cheese) for gut health.

  • Rich in vitamins B12, A, and zinc.



5. Yogurt (Curd): -

Yogurt is a type of curd which we also referred to as thicker version of the milk. Yogurt is a type of fermented milk using live bacterial cultures. In yogurt, the milk should get warm to little extent and then we can add a little bit of the yogurt spoon the in the milk and then left the milk overnight and then we get the fermented milk which we called as yogurt.

  • Consumed directly or with fruits.

6. Buttermilk: -

Buttermilk is another type of milk as it clear from its name Buttermilk it is the type of milk which contains butter in it. It is referred to as buttermilk because it is originally the liquid left after churning butter.

  • Traditional Buttermilk 
  • Cultured Buttermilk 


Uses: -

  • Butter milk can also be used as a cooling summer drink because it can be sold and consumed as a drink by adding different flavours and nuts in the milk.
  • It can also be used in baking (pancakes, biscuits).
  • Buttermilk can be used in various dishes especially Indian dishes like buttermilk is the base for Indian dishes like kadhi.

7. Ice Cream and Frozen Dairy: -

Ice Cream is also a part of the milk category because Ice cream can be made from milk. Sweetened Milk and added flavored frozen dairy dessert are referred to as ice cream.

  • Ice cream is a type of desserts that can be loved by almost each and every people.

  • The Best way to consumed ice cream is in moderation.


8. Whey: -

Whey is the type of the milk which is little bit similar to buttermilk because Whey can be made after the curdling of the milk. In other words, we can say that the liquid leftover after milk is curdled and strained (cheesemaking).


Uses: -

  • Whey can be used as protein Supplements
  • It can also be referred to as baking Ingredient
  • It can also be used in protein shakes and supplements.

9. Condensed and Evaporated Milk: -

Condensed Milk: - Condensed milk is another form of which in which excess of the water get soaked from the milk and it can sweeter the milk. So, it can also be referred to as sweetened milk with reduced water.

Evaporated Milk: - Evaporated milk is very similar to Condensed milk, but the only difference is that this milk is not sweeted. So, this milk can be referred to as unsweetened concentrated milk.

  • This type of milk can be used in sweets, desserts, and beverages (e.g., tea, coffee).
  • It can also be used in Indian sweets like barfi, kheer.

10. Milk Powder: -

Milk powder is a type of dry milk. It is another form of the milk in which we get the milk in dehydrated form. Dehydrated milk can be used in cooking and baking because it can have long shelf life as compared to the original milk which is in liquid form.


Uses: -

  • Milk powder can also be used in tea, coffee, and baking. It can mostly be used while travelling because carry milk powder pouches is much easier than taking the milk.
  • It is very convenient in places with no refrigeration because the liquid milk can get spoiled without refrigerator, but milk powder has long shelf life, so it does not get spoiled without refrigerator.
