Types of Meat

What is Meat?

Meat: -

Meat is referred to as the edible flesh of different animals that are consumed as food. The flesh of any bird, animal and mammal that can be edible is refer to as eatable meat. Not of all animals but there are some animals, birds and mammals whose flesh is edible which means we can eat the flesh of that animals as a food. Eating of the meat can be depend on the variety of the meat or the animal whose flesh we are using to eat because there are some of the type of meat that can be eaten as raw but there are some meat type are also there that cannot be eaten as raw to eat that meat we have to process it and in processing of the meat products lot of spices can be added in the flesh to enhance the flavor of the meat and to enhance its delicacy. 

Meat is very beneficial for us as it is a complete protein in its own meal because it can contain all the essential nutrients, proteins, vitamins and all the amino acids that are beneficial for our body. it can contain minerals which helps our muscle to get repair and can increase the growth of the muscle, it also supports our immune health because it contains nutrients like zinc, iron and vitamin B6 and B12.


Example: - Beef, Mutton, Pork, Lamb etc.


Types of Meat: - 

1. Red Meat: -

Red meat is said to be as red meat because the flesh of this is red in color. Red meat comes from mammals, and they have high myoglobin levels in their body due to which the color of their flesh is complete red even in its raw state. As red meat already has inbulit red color in its raw state or even they are in highly red state so giving other color to these food items is typically difficult because mainly these types of meat can change their color from red to brown only when we add yellow turmeric in that at the time of processing. 

Example: - Beef, Pork, Lamb, Goat, etc.


2. White Meat: -

White meat generally refers to meat that is pale in color before and after cooking, typically from poultry and certain fish. It has lower myoglobin levels than red meat. White meat is the meat that itself have no color, it is totally color free having only skin color so we can change its color or can give any color by adding the spices or by adding artificial color.

Example: - Poultry like Chicken, Turkey, Duck, Goose, etc.


3. Game Meat (Wild Meat): -

Game meats are also known as wild meat. It can be called as wild meat because it is the meat of wild animal, or we can say that the cuisine that can be made in this may use wild animal's flesh or different parts in this food. Game meat also refers to animals that are hunted for food rather than raised on farms. It includes both red and white meats and is typically leaner and more flavorful. As of having wild meat or game meat this type of meat is more nutritious or can be consider as complete proteins.


Example: - Rabbit, Quail, Wild Boar, Deer, etc.


4. Organ Meat: -

Organ meats are the meats that include the edible internal parts of different kinds of animals. Though these types of meat can be commonly less consumed in some regions of our country but that types of meat are very nutritious and prized in many traditional cuisines. All the regions have their different cuisine related to organ meat because In India, there are many regions in which animal can be worshipped so in that region eating that particular animals' organ meat is prohibited.


Example: - Liver, Kidney, Heart, etc


5. Processed Meat: -

Processed meats are meats that have been preserved by smoking, curing, salting, or adding chemical preservatives. It is the flesh of different animal from which some types of meat can be eaten as raw and some of its types can be eaten in a Processed from it can't be eaten as raw. So that type of meat can be called as processed meat and preservation of that meat is very necessary to prevent them from bacterial growth or spoilage.


Example: - Bacon, Sausage, Ham, Hot dogs, etc.
