Types of Vegetables

What are Vegetables?


VEGETABLES: -

  • Vegetables are the edible parts of the plant that are mostly used to consume as a meal. We ca eat various parts of vegetable plant like root, stem, their flower, its leaves and so on. we can take these parts as a mela or can be eaten as raw. we can intake these vegetables as a raw or in the processed way. 


  • Vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients that make them an essential part of a healthy diet. These vitamins and minerals are very beneficial for our body which provides us energy and help them to make us fit and healthy. 


TYPES OF VEGETABLES: -

1. Leafy Green: -

  • Leafy green vegetables are those vegetables that contain green leaves, or we can say that leafy green vegetables are the leafy part of the plant. These vegetables are those vegetables in which leaves of the plant can be eaten. Leafy Green Vegetables are high in iron, folate, calcium and vitamin K which support our bone health and reduce inflammation.


  • Example: - Spinach, Kale, Lettuce, Collard Greens, Swiss Chard


2. Cruciferous Vegetables: - 

  • Cruciferous Vegetables are also known as brassicas. Cruciferous vegetables are those vegetables that have come from the family of the plant Brassicaceae which are also known for their cross-shaped flower. Cruciferous vegetables are rich in antioxidants, fiber and Vitamin C and it contain Sulphur compound also that support us in detoxification.

  •    Example: - Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage 

    

3. Root Vegetables: -

  • Root Vegetables are those vegetables that grow inside the soil or underground. Basically, Root vegetables are very important plant of the plant that are always inside the ground and roots are very important and strong part of the plant. Roots vegetables are excellent source of complex carbohydrates and beta-carotene. Root vegetables are used to boosts energy level and promotes gut health.


  • Example: - Carrots, Beets, Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Radishes.   


4. Allium Vegetables: - 

  • Allium vegetables are the plant that belong to the genus allium within the amaryllis family, or it is a group of the plants belonging to the genus allium family. This genus includes a wide variety of edible and ornamental plants. Allium vegetables contain Sulphur compounds with antimicrobial and immune-boosting properties.

  • Example: - Garlic, Onion, Shallots, Leeks etc.

   

5. Starchy Vegetables: -

  • Starchy Vegetables are those vegetables that contain carbohydrates in high amount which is in the form of starch. These carbohydrates are very good for our health as it provides us energy so that our body is being capable of doing its regular work without any problem. 


  • Example: - Potatoes, Corn, Peas etc.
