What is Junk Food?
Junk Food: -
The word junk means "Waste" or the type of food that is not good for health. Basically, junk food is also a type of food. It is called junk because that food is not good for our health because junk food is high in calories but are very low in their nutritional value. It's typically rich in fats, sugars, salt, and additives and lacking in essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, fiber, and protein. Junk food is any food that offers little or no nutritional benefits and is often fabricated or manufactured in a way that rising its calorie count while reducing its health benefits. It may taste good and be convenient, but it's generally considered harmful when consumed in excess.
Junk food is not good for our health because it can contain those items which are not good for our health, because that items are very harmful for us that can cause severe disease. Junk food has a unique taste that can increase our sensing taste buds because of that we want to eat that junk food again and again. The vegetables that they are using is also not natural and fresh that Vegetables are not in good condition and not only the vegetables all the other things they are using is not fresh like the oils they are using and the most dangerous things they are using in each and every item is the Ajinomoto which is very harmful for our health and this Ajinomoto can also destroy all the nutrients and minerals of the food.
Characteristics of Junk Food:
1. High in Calories:
- Junk food is excess in calories because all the items of junk food is deep fried in which excess of the oil should be used. and the oil used for deep frying of the food item is also not good so that's why even a small quantity of junk food can contains lot of calories. It contains a lot of energy (calories) in small portions for that reason it is very unhealthy food for us. It often leads to weight gain when consumed regularly because of its high calorie count.
2. Low Nutritional Value: -
- As we know, the ingredients like fruits, vegetable and oil used to prepare the junk food item is not natural and fresh for that reason junk food lacks in essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Because of the bad condition of the ingredients or we can say that they can use the ingredients whose healthy proteins, vitamins and minerals already get destroyed. It can provide "empty healthy calories" to our body which means the calorie that junk food provide to our body is not good that calorie is helping to gain the weight.
3. High in Sugar:
- There are many eatable products are there in the list of junk food which is loaded with sugar and the soft drink of junk food is completely a version of added sugar and artificial colors which can lead to diabetes, obesity, and tooth decay. Not only soft drink but there are many other things also like pastries, cakes, donuts etc. That is full loaded with sugar.
4. High in Unhealthy Fats:
- Junk Food is the food that often contains saturated fats and trans fats that directly linked to heart disease and high cholesterol.
5. High in Salt (Sodium):
- With the lot of added sugar junk food is also loaded with excessive sodium. We can say that in junk food sodium is present in very high amount which can lead to high blood pressure and kidney issues. High sodium is very high in common junk food which includes chips, instant noodles, processed meats.
6. Highly Processed:
- There are various things that are included in the list of junk food that's highly Processed and made with artificial ingredients, preservatives, colors, and flavor enhancers to enhance the flavor of the dishes and to look the dish attractive. These junk food dishes are shelf-stable but often far from natural food.
7. Low in Fiber:
- The dishes made in junk food can lacks in dietary fiber, which is essential for digestion and gut health. There is basically no fiber in junk food it can contains only high cholesterol and unhealthy fats.
8. Convenient and Ready-to-Eat:
- The junk food items are very convenient whether it is eatable or drinkable the cost the products is very less so that everybody can afford it. These food items are easily available on the stores or shops. We can buy these items from any nearby grocery store. And some of the items that have to be prepare we can get that item easily from roadside vendors and they can prepare that item very quickly and some of the items are ready to eat. They can mostly target those people those have busy lifestyles but promotes poor eating habits.
9. Addictive Taste:
- Even with the use of low cot oil they can make their product or item super tasty and super delicious. It is specially designed to be hyper-palatable (very tasty) that make the customer to crave for more. They mostly trigger overeating and mindless snacking that crave the children to get more after completing the one packet.
10. Attractive Packaging and Marketing:
- Junk food can often pack in the wrappers having bright color and most of the packaging wrapper comes with cartoon characters because they have the target to attract children and teenager. Moreover, they can also provide small gifts like toys, and coupons inside the package to tempt the customer like children and teenager so that they should buy their product. With the bright colors and cartoon characters wrapper they also have tempting slogans that target the customers especially targeted at children and teenager.
