Hard Cheese


As it already clears form its name that hard cheese is a type of cheese which have very hard texture. As all the cheese have their different texture similarly hard cheese have very hard texture. Hard cheese is also a type of cheese which is similar to the other types of cheese but the only difference between this cheese and another cheese is in their flavours and textures. This cheese is also an aged cheese soft, semi-soft and hard cheese but difference is that this type of cheese is long aged cheese as compared to other cheese. The name of this cheese can specify that this cheese is hard in their texture which means the moisture content from this cheese can be remove completely. The removing of moisture content cannot be done in some minutes or hours it can also be not done in some days or weeks. The process of removing the moisture content from the cheese can take many months or years, so. this cheese takes many months or years to be ready. Because this cheese can take too much time that is the also reason of their low moisture content. the total moisture content in hard cheese is less than 40% that's why this type of cheese can last longer for very long time. 




Types of Hard Cheese: -

Parmesan: - 
The word parmesan can be made from the two words Parmigiano-Reggiano (which is the name of the two different states of the Italy).  Parmesan cheese can also be known as the "King of Cheese". Parmesan cheese can be made from cow's milk due to which the texture of parmesan cheese is very hard, firm and granular texture. Because of granular texture this cheese can be break easily. The taste of this cheese is slightly salty, spicy and has a nutty flavor. The parmesan cheese is a type of aging cheese that can be aged from 12 months to 24 months. Parmesan cheese is very aged cheese that can be made from cow's milk. 


Uses: - 

  • Parmesan cheese is used in spreading over the pasta because of its hard texture. By adding on the pasta or salads it gives cheese taste and texture and look to the various dishes.
  • Many Italian dishes like spaghetti, lasagna, and gnocchi are incomplete without the finishing touch of this parmesan cheese.
  • Parmesan cheese can also be shaved into thin slices for salads, antipasto platters.
  • It also uses in various types of soups and sauces and especially white sauces.

Grana Padano Cheese: -

Grana Padano cheese is also a type of an aged Italian cheese which is made up of cow's milk. This cheese is very similar to parmesan cheese, but the only difference is that parmesan cheese is costly than Grana Padano Cheese and Grana Padano cheese is the cheaper version of parmesan cheese having the similarities of parmesan cheese. Grana Padano Cheese is little bit mild and less salty in taste and texture in the comparison of parmesan cheese. The texture of this cheese can be clear from its name that 'Grana' means grainy in Italian and 'Padano' refers to the Po River Valley which is the region in Northern Italy where this cheese is originally generated. 



Uses: - 

  • As this cheese is the cheaper version of parmesan cheese, so the use of this cheese is also similar to the parmesan cheese as it is also grated over various Italian dishes like pasta, risotto and soups.
  • This cheese gives the savory umami taste to the various Italian dishes.
  • This cheese is also used in antipasti platters with olives, prosciutto and fruits.
  • This cheese is also added to various baked dishes liked baked pasta, gratins and casseroles. 
  • It also uses in various soups and salads for deep flavor. 

Pecorino Romano Cheese: -

Pecorino Romano cheese is also a type of hard cheese which is made up from sheep's milk. The name of this cheese is named on the sheep because in Italian 'Pecora' means 'sheep'. This cheese is one of the oldest cheeses in the world and one of the very famous cheeses in Italian market. This cheese is very famous for its taste, texture and flavor. The texture of this cheese is very hard and can have a very strong taste. Because of its hardness and strong taste and salty flavor it is mainly used for grating over various pasta dishes like parmesan.


Uses: - 

  • The most common and essential use of this cheese is mainly in the roman dishes like various pasta dishes like cheese pasta, cheese and pepper pasta, white sauce pasta and red sauce pasta because of its hard texture and salty flavor it gives creamy and salty flavor to various other dishes.
  • By adding this cheese to the various dishes, it gives savory kick to various dishes like pasta, lasagna, gnocchi and various other dishes in which this type of cheese is added. 
  • This type of cheese usually added in the sauces that sauces are tomato riches sauces and creamy pasta sauces. 
  • The addition of this cheese gives deep umami flavor to soups, sauces, stews and broth also. 

Manchego Cheese: -

Manchego Cheese is also a type of hard cheese which is made from the sheep's milk. This cheese can clarify the name if the cheese is that Manchego Cheese can be made from the sheep's milk which is the special Manchego breed of the sheep. This is the special type of the sheep and that sheep's milk can be used to make this cheese. Manchego cheese is most popular and iconic cheese of Spain. This cheese has its buttery and nutty flavor and because of its nutty flavor this cheese can mostly use in grating and spreading over various dishes.  This cheese can be easily broken because of its granular texture. 




Uses: - 

  • As this cheese is the iconic and most popular in Spain, so this cheese can be commonly served in the Tapas dishes which is commonly served in Spain.
  • The slices of this cheese can also be used in various sandwiches, paninis and wraps.
  • This cheese can also use to give creamy and buttery flavor to the omelets and scrambled eggs.
  • The grated and cubed Manchego cheese can be used in various salads that combines well with balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing.
